(0:04) All right, we’re in the Truth Project, Tour 8. (0:09) Last week, we talked about Unio Mystica, (0:15) the mysterious union. (0:18) And the audio last week, in one of the places (0:22) I happened to say mythical union, (0:27) I changed it in the transcript, but it’s still in the audio (0:31) as mythical instead of mystical. (0:35) The mysterious union between God and man, (0:40) which is the third of the three intimate social spheres, (0:45) family, the church, and the union between God and man, (0:52) intimacy with God.

(0:54) So last week, we talked about that part (0:57) of the social sphere of that intimate relationship (1:02) with the Creator. (1:04) And talking about the divine imprint in Tour 7 (1:11) that Del prefaces this whole section, (1:15) second part of the Truth Project that (1:18) focuses on the social spheres, are all (1:24) patterned after the triune nature of God. (1:30) So this intimate union is the essence of eternal life, (1:35) knowing God as deeply as a spouse knows their partner.

(1:39) And tonight, we’re going to continue, (1:42) because Del says this relationship is not (1:45) without challenges, Unio Mystica. (1:50) Dr. Tackett warns against blurring the spheres, (1:54) such as assuming individual worship can replace (1:57) corporate worship, or that church attendance alone (2:01) fulfills the Unio Mystica, that mysterious union between God, (2:06) just us individually, and not worshiping together (2:10) as a church. (2:11) So blurring those spheres causes problems.

(2:14) And he also addresses the human hunger (2:17) for significance, which, when misdirected, (2:21) leads to spiritual dysfunction. (2:23) And like the Israelites prostituting themselves (2:25) to idols, or the Pharisees seeking human approval (2:29) through ostentatious displays, we risk forsaking God (2:35) when we chase self-importance outside of his covenant. (2:40) And the Unio Mystica redefines Christianity (2:43) not as a moral code or a philosophy, (2:46) but as a living relationship with a personal God.

(2:50) It goes beyond a checklist now. (2:53) It’s about building a relationship (2:56) with the creator himself. (2:59) And he saves us.

(3:02) He takes our sins away, makes us sinless, (3:06) so that he can have an intimate relationship (3:10) with his creation. (3:13) The point is this relationship that he (3:16) wants to build with us that will continue (3:19) into eternity, for eternity. (3:23) So this Unio Mystica redefines Christianity (3:26) not as a moral code or philosophy, (3:29) but as a living relationship with a personal God.

(3:32) And this truth should evoke wonder, (3:35) driving us to worship and deepen our hunger for intimacy (3:39) with him. (3:41) By resting in Christ’s love, we find true fulfillment, (3:45) free from the pathologies of pride and isolation. (3:49) And ultimately, this lesson calls us to cherish (3:53) the price paid for this union, Christ’s precious blood, (3:58) and to pursue a closer walk with God, (4:01) transformed by his truth and love.

(4:05) So it’s a whole, totally different concept (4:08) than what most of us have. (4:12) So with that in mind, let’s go to the video. (4:21) This hunger for us to be significant is common (4:25) for all of us.

(4:27) And Del brings up the idea that it’s a drive (4:31) that God has given us, because he knows (4:35) it can only be satisfied, our significance (4:38) can only be satisfied through God himself. (4:42) We are only significant because God gives us significance. (4:47) We’re not significant on our own, (4:50) but we’ll start to tour nine next week.
