The Law of Moses
In the Hebrew text, Leviticus begins with the word “and” showing that it was the continuation of the story that was begun in Exodus, with which it stands as a unit. Exodus closes the primary stage of Hebrew history and begins the story of God’s legislation to his people through the Law of Moses. Exodus is a prelude to and an introduction to Leviticus.
In Exodus 19:5-6 God makes this statement to the children of Israel after he rescued them out of Egyptian bondage, “Now therefore, if you* will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then you* will be my own possession from among all peoples, for all the earth is mine, 19:6 and you* will be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you will speak to the sons of Israel.”
“To be continued.”
