Witnesses for the King
To establish truth or guilt God required that a matter be established by eyewitnesses who could give testimony.
Moses writes in
"One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established."
Jesus likewise used this standard for his church.
"But if he hear thee not, take with thee one or two more, that at the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may be established."
And Paul also used it in his second letter to the
"This is the third time I am coming to you. At the mouth of two witnesses or three shall every word be established."
So God himself provided to Mary and Joseph people who would give eyewitness testimony to establish as truth the words spoken by the angel Gabriel. First are the shepherds who came and saw the baby Messiah in the manger and told Mary and Joseph all that happened to them and what they heard. Then came the Maji from the east and worshipped the King of the Jews that was born. When the mother and father of our Lord took him to the temple to present him to God, we had both Simeon and Anna take the child and prophesy about him and bless them and praise God for getting to see the consolation of Israel.
God himself also gave eyewitness testimony concerning his Son. At Jesus baptism, at the transfiguration and at the market place when the Greek men were seeking audience with Jesus, God thundered from heaven,
“This is my Son whom I love, with him I am well pleased.”,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased-listen to him!” and,
“I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
Brothers and sisters it is a well established fact that Jesus is the Christ, the King of kings and the son of the Living God of heaven.
