(0:28) Continuing with the lesson started this morning with respecting Christ’s authority.

(0:39) This morning we learned that Christ spoke with authority and astonished the people. (0:51) We saw his power or authority over nature and over demons and in his touch. (1:00) We saw that he had authority in those and the authority that he had and the power that he used (1:15) when he healed people and cast out the demons and raised the dead and such.

(1:24) He had even authority to forgive sins. (1:34) Tonight I’m going to turn to John 12, 48-50. (1:51) I’m going to read these verses.

(1:57) He who rejects me and does not receive my words has that which judges him. (2:09) The word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. (2:16) For I have not spoken on my own authority, (2:22) but the Father who sent me gave me a command, (2:28) what I should say and what I should speak.

(2:33) And I know that his command is everlasting life. (2:38) Therefore, whatever I speak, just as the Father has told me, so I speak. (2:49) In the introduction this morning, I talked about the man that was in a conversation with one in the brotherhood (3:08) and this brother was telling him and showing him what Jesus was saying.

(3:20) He said, that is his opinion, but in these verses, as Jesus has consistently throughout his ministry, (3:40) would say, I have come to do my Father’s will. (3:50) The things that he did and said were not his own. (3:57) And so here, he is saying, for I have not spoken on my own authority or on his own.

(4:12) Now, the writings of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is just a little bit of what Jesus said and did. (4:29) But when he did speak, he didn’t give his opinions of what we read. (4:44) But what he said was the truth and what he said was according to what his Father had commanded him to say.

(4:56) As we learn here, not only are these sayings not his own, but he said, he who rejects me and does not receive my words, (5:23) has that which judges him. (5:26) So, one day what Jesus speaks will be judging. (5:38) The word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.

(5:45) So, we need to pay attention to that, because as I read in Matthew 28, 18, (5:57) Jesus says, all authority has been given unto me in heaven and on earth. (6:05) And he has all authority. (6:10) We can’t dismiss what Jesus says without suffering the consequences, without having what he said judge us in the last day.

(6:30) He’s got all authority. (6:34) We see the authority that he had when he spoke, the miracles, the casting out the demons and such, the power to forgive. (6:49) He still has that power to forgive.

(6:54) He’s been given all authority in heaven and on earth. (6:59) He fulfilled the Father’s will when he came to this earth. (7:08) And when he did the things that he did, when he said the things that he said, and finally when he went to the cross.

(7:24) This was to fulfill the Father’s will in his death. (7:31) Going all the way to the cross, dying. (7:37) And you know when one of the things that Jesus said when he was up on the cross, (7:47) Father forgive them for they know not what they do.

(7:54) But yes, he died and he was buried. (7:59) And on the third day after he was buried, he was resurrected. (8:08) And now all authority has been given to him.

(8:15) Christ didn’t take this authority, it was given to him. (8:22) And so we need to listen to what he says. (8:29) We need to accept the fact that he has this authority.

(8:35) It seems like some people want to dismiss the things that he says and wants to try to correct him in what he says and what he did. (8:50) But he has all authority. (8:56) Now, when we see that he does not speak on his own, that takes care of the opinion that the man responded when he was shown what Jesus said, oh that’s his opinion.

(9:19) Well, he said what the Father sent him. (9:26) He said, the Father who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak. (9:35) We should respect his authority.

(9:41) And as far as not liking what Jesus says, in the introduction, the young man that I said that was trying to show me how the denominations came into being. (10:06) Well, what he pointed to me is just exactly how they came into being. (10:13) That there were things that the people didn’t like, so they decided that they would change them.

(10:26) But we don’t have the authority to change what he said. (10:33) But John 14, 23 and 24, I want to read, says, (10:43) If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make an abode with him. (10:57) He who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word which you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

(11:12) Again, he’s telling his disciples now that the words that he says is not his, but the Father who sent me. (11:30) But he said, if anyone loves me, love is much stronger than like. (11:38) If we love Jesus, we’ll keep his commandments.

(11:48) And the Father will love him, and he says, we will come to him and make a home with him. (11:58) So you see, we’ll have the Father and the Son. (12:04) And there was one lady one time said, I take only what’s in red letters in my Bible.

(12:25) Well, those red letters that she’s referring to are the words of Jesus. (12:31) And she said, I take only what’s in red letters. (12:40) Well, she should have read John 15, verses 26 and 27.

(12:56) But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will testify of me. (13:14) And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. (13:23) Now, there are some copies of the New Testament or the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, that all of them are in black ink.

(13:45) And the words that Jesus is speaking is not in red letters. (13:51) But it’s the words that Jesus speaks that is of importance. (14:00) Now, what he’s telling these disciples, that they are going to have a Helper that will come and that will be with them.

(14:13) And he said, whom I, Jesus said, whom I shall send to you. (14:22) So the Holy Spirit will come because Jesus is going to send him. (14:31) But he said, I’m going to send him from the Father.

(14:37) And he calls him the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father. (14:44) He will testify of me. (14:48) What that means is that the Spirit is going to guide these men that he’s speaking to.

(14:57) And he is going to testify of Jesus. (15:04) He is going to proceed from the Father. (15:09) So the Father and the Son will have the effort of sending him.

(15:22) And the Spirit will testify of me. (15:27) That means that the books from Acts to Revelation is written through the Holy Spirit. (15:41) And 1 Peter 1.21 says that Peter is telling these brethren that it should be 2 Peter 1.21. (16:15) But he says in verse 20, (16:19) Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation.

(16:29) For prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. (16:47) And even at the end of this, he said, and consider that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation. (16:57) This is in 2 Peter 3 and verse 15.

(17:04) And consider that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation. (17:09) As also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you. (17:20) As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which some things hard to understand, (17:33) which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do the rest of the Scriptures.

(17:45) What Peter is saying here is that even the writings of Paul fall under the same direction of the Holy Spirit that even the Old Testament. (18:03) The Old Testament was written by the Holy Spirit. (18:11) Holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

(18:18) So also, Paul’s letter falls in this. (18:25) So will the letters that Peter wrote. (18:33) And also the Matthew, Mark, Luke and John is written through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

(18:47) So all these books are written through the Holy Spirit given to us. (18:57) He is the Spirit of truth. (18:59) He testifies of Christ.

(19:02) And what is written, as I said, from Acts to Revelation, these books are what Jesus wants us to know too. (19:16) These books are what the Holy Spirit moved these men to write. (19:23) And so these are what Christ wants us to know.

(19:30) Because the Holy Spirit testified of Him. (19:34) Testified of the things that belong to Him. (19:40) So these words that we have in the New Testament are what Jesus wants us to know.

(19:50) And it doesn’t make any difference about the color of the ink. (19:55) We need to pay attention to the words. (20:00) And so I’m going to give the invitation now.

(20:09) And I’m going to say that if anyone needs to, the priors of the church or needs to in any way devote their life to Christ. (20:24) By accepting Christ. (20:29) By believing in Him and being baptized to be saved.

(20:36) To have their sins remitted. (20:42) May they do so and may they live faithfully unto Christ and to the end. (20:51) And if anyone else needs the priors of the church, the invitation is yours.

(21:01) Let us respect Christ’s authority by doing what He wants us to do. (21:11) Let us sing the invitation song.
