AM Sermon, Jan 26, 2025

Intro:

We are to be holy (1st Pet. 1:15-16; Lev. 11:44), that is, separate from the world. Jesus prayed that His disciples be not of the world. But He prayed not that His disciples be taken out of the world, but they be not of the world. We will discuss, while we His followers are in the world, how they are not of the world.

  1. Jesus’ prayer (John 17:11, 15-18)

    1. “I am no longer in the world (vs. 11)

    2. “Holy Father, keep them through Your name. (vs. 11)

    3. “I do not pray You… take them out of the world” (vs. 15)

    4. “Keep them from the evil one.” (vs. 15)

  2. “Be separate” (2nd Cor. 6:14-18)

    1. Not be unequally yoked together (vs. 14)

    2. “What agreement has the temple of God with idols?” (vs. 16)

    3. “Come out from among them and be separate…” (vs. 17)

  3. Love not the world (1st John 2:15-17)

    1. Things in the world

      1. Lust of the flesh

      2. Lust of the eyes

      3. The pride of life

    2. Not of the Father but of the world

    3. The world is passing away (vs. 17)

      1. The lust of it

      2. He who does the will of God abides forever. (1st John 4:17-19; James 4:4)

Conclusion:

Let us then be holy as God is holy. That means we will be separated from the world, that is different from the world. When we are not as the world we are sanctified/holy.
