Introduction

In Luke 1:15, the angel of the Lord appears to Zacharias to announce that his wife Elisabeth would bear a son. What is notable about this is that both were well stricken in years. (Luke 1:7) They had no child for Elisabeth was barren. Now as Zacharias was tending to his priestly duties, an angel of the Lord told him he and his wife would have a son. His name would be called John. He would be "great in the sight of the Lord." "He will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb." I chose the topic "Being Filled" for there is a lot of confusion of being filled with the Holy Spirit and baptism of the Holy Spirit. There are other things we can be filled with besides the Holy Spirit.

  1. Hunger and thirst after righteousness; shall be filled (Matt. 5:6)

    1. All God’s commandments are righteousness. (Psa. 119:172)

    2. How are we filled? (Col. 1:9,10; 2nd Tim. 2:15)

    3. Being filled with fruits of righteousness (Phil. 1:9-11)

  2. Be filled with all the fulness of God (Eph. 3:14-19)

    1. Paul prayed for the Ephesian brethren

      1. That God would grant them according to His riches in glory (vs. 16)

      2. That Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith (vs. 17)

      3. May be filled with all the fulness of God (vs. 19; John  17:20-23)

    2. The Godhead is in this context. (vss. 14, 16)

    3. Be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18)

      1. Be not drunk with wine

      2. Dissipation- squander in pursuit of pleasure; riotous living; waste
        (Webster’s English Dictionary)

  3. Filled with the Holy Spirit

    1. Does not generally mean baptism of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:15,41,67)

    2. Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4,5; 2:1-4; 10:44-48; 11:15-17)

    3. The Samaritans (Acts 8:5-17)

Conclusion:

We have seen we can be filled with knowledge of God’s will. Also the fruits of knowledge; the fulness of God; and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Give the invitation.
