God’s Knowledge of Man

Scriptures: Matthew 26:21-24, 31-35

How well do we know ourselves? I mean we are able to say I know me better than anyone else. That seems realistic to a slight degree but, in truth we are an ever evolving creature of our environment.

Lets look at an example before we begin:

Organisms over time will evolve based on what is presented to them. So when we look at how our world is changing “Climate Change/ Global Warming” what’s happening to all living organisms? Some organisms are dying off rapidly to the point of extinction or they are thriving if the conditions are right. Some creatures are becoming predators in their habitat while others are becoming prey. We as “God’s Children” are no different nor are we exempt from these changes as well. That shows in our thought and deeds and our lack of knowledge of self and of God. It also points at the huge hole we have when it comes to our ability to trust in God and his knowledge of us because we evolve based on the worldly environment as opposed to the spiritual.

So, lets look at a real life scenario. Life or death which do you choose? Can you truly say you know what you would do? Some of us right now would say, Yes!!! The answer is simple LIFE! But, in reality that’s not true because every decision we (you) are involved in has extenuating circumstances that we (you) may not even be aware of. We see it play out in plenty of movies, you know the lines your life for theirs, do this or this happens etc; This all happens and we may not ever be aware because we are never fully in the know. However, the GOD we serve is and his knowledge of us….. well let me just give Us (you) a glimpse.

Lets look at our text (Genesis 1:26)
  • Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [a]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

When “THEY” created man it was in their image and we were to have dominion.
  • This was our pre-disposition prior to even having been created (Gen 1:27) Just like a computer program. Prior to being released into the world it was coded. God’s coding of us is “good” (Gen 1:31)

  • Lets reaffirm this just so we are clear (Jeremiah 1:4-5)

    • “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified[a] you; I [b]ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

These passages show God’s knowledge of us and that we were all born with a purpose.

Now lets continue to look further into God’s Knowledge of Man(woman)

Let’s look at Psalms 139:1-6
  • O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2) You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3) You [a]comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4) For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5) You have [b]hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. 6) Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.

  • King David in these verses verifies that God’s knowledge of him surpasses that of own understanding. He even acknowledges in verse 5 that God has hedged him behind and before meaning he knew the end from the beginning (Isaiah46: 9-10)

    Note
Side note: In that particular passage God is talking to the house of Jacob about their idolatry and how those “gods” they believed in and were manufacturing could not nor would they be able bare the burden or transgressions in which they incurred but the living God the One of Old since the beginning would and also pointed out He knew their end from the beginning and all would come to pass according to his pleasure for Israel is his glory.

Does your understanding of yourself come close to God’s understanding of you. How about this does your understanding of not understanding come close to that of how David realized his lack of knowledge of himself? Confusing right…..? (hahaha)

Let us continue Psalms 139: 7-12
  • 7) Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8) If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in [c]hell, behold, You are there. 9) If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10) Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11) If I say, “Surely the darkness shall [d]fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12) Indeed, the darkness [e]shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

  • King David now addresses the fact that no matter where he goes Gods presence is always upon him, there is no place he can go that God does not see.

    • So, why do we try and hide from God like what we say, do, or think is hidden from the Lord our God?

    • We have a saying all things done in the dark come to the light (Psalms 139: 11-12) verifies this thoroughly.

Lets combine the two bullet points of God’s Knowledge of man follow me for a second here.

Turn to (Matt 26: 21- 24) Jesus tells the apostles about the one who will betray him. Now Judas knew he was going to betray Christ before he even went to the Passover but, lets think about this for a moment. Judas never expected Christ to know right refer back to bullet point one (God knew you before you were born (Jer 1: 4-5; Psalms 139:11-12) One thing about Judas as can be interpreted he never denied it nor confirmed it to the others because they were all to caught up thinking it would be them. Another example (Matt 26: 31-35) Peters denial of Christ refer to (Psalms 139:1-6 emphasis on verses 1-4;6) These examples point back to my initial statement of how we being followers of Christ/ God will become victims to the evolution of our worldly environment as opposed to our spiritual.

Ok, so lets continue in (Psalms 139: 13-16)
  • King David now acknowledges how God already knew his path. If you remember the last time I spoke I emphasized that Intimate relationship God has with us even when we don’t recognize it (refer to Isaiah 16 and emphasize Psalms 139: 16)

    • Its like this, God gives us all the free will to choose but, its all to lead you back to Him but remember these two key factors

      • Matt 16:17 Simon could have believed what the world told him or what the Spirit told him which was from God about who Jesus was and is. (God reveals himself to you)

      • Upon the revelation that you receive from God it allows for you(Us) to then truly see and receive Gods grace and mercy through the acceptance of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:12-16)

This is only a small glimpse into God’s Knowledge of man and it truly is an amazing feat that our God does for us.
