Me, Myself, and I
Looking out for number one. That’s the message many in our society preach and follow. In many ways, we have become a nation of people obsessed with self-preservation and satisfaction. Just as long as I’m happy, have everything I want when I want it, then phooey on everyone else! Remember the toilet paper shortage of 2022? We saw terrible examples of greediness and selfishness demonstrated in our grocery stores. This attitude is completely opposite from that of the Christian, for the bible states, “For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:21) The child of God must dedicate themselves to a life of service to God and other people. Jesus taught us to, “Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.” (Matthew 5:42) Folks, that means the last roll of toilet paper! As we co-exist in the church, this attitude is of the utmost importance. Physical and spiritual support come from raising each other up, no exceptions, no exclusions. We all want to be pleasing to God, so the Hebrew writer said, “But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” (Hebrews 13:16) Instead of “Me, Myself, and I”, let us make our life’s ambition to be, “God, Christ, and Others.”
