The Enduring Word
I have always been impressed by things that last and stand the test of time. In our woodworking, we sometimes harvest trees that are well over 100 years old, these trees have been through fertile times and the adversity of drought yet persevered. I also appreciate old tools and equipment that last, because of their craftsmanship, last to be used by generation to generation. But the most impressive of all are the enduring words of the bible. Written over a period 1400-1600 years and completed some 2,000 years ago, it continues to exist despite unnumbered attempts to destroy it. The bible continues to furnish the knowledge of God and the path for the salvation of souls. Even as the bible was being written, promises of its longevity were included in its writing.
Here are a few examples:
-
Plants of the earth will fade, but God’s word stands forever (Is. 40:8)
-
Words for a thousand generations (Psalm 105:8)
-
God’s word is forever settled in heaven (Psalm 119:89)
-
The scriptures of old still provide hope (Romans 15:4)
-
The word remains till all is fulfilled (Matthew 5:18)
-
The word is the source of everlasting life (John 5:24)
-
The bible is incorruptible (1 Peter 1:23)
-
The bible will outlast the heavens and earth (Matt. 24:35)
-
The bible will endure forever (1 Peter 1:25)
