Truly Blessed, Truly Rich, Truly Saved

As we consider how to be truly rich, we must certainly consider just how rich we are when compared to others in the world. The following list was written by an unknown author and has been in my files for almost 20 years. I’m sure that the numbers and percentages would be greatly inflated now and even if these figures are only half right, they still are eye-opening as to how truly blessed we really are.

  • If you woke up this morning with more health than illness…​you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

  • If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation …​ you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

  • If you can attend a place of worship without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death…​you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

  • If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep…​you are richer than 75% of this world.

  • If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace…​you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.

Now, add to this list the spiritual blessings we have in Christ (Ephesians 1:3), the forgiveness of sin through the Savior’s blood (1 John 1:7), and the promise of eternal life (John 10:28), what right do we have to complain or murmur about one single thing? Let us always remember that we are truly blessed, truly rich, and truly saved!
