Hebrews – Jesus, the Apostle & High Priest
Jesus the Apostle
The writer of Hebrews asks us to consider Jesus the Apostle and High Priest. Heb 3:1 Jesus and Moses were faithful in all God’s house, Moses as a servant and Jesus as the Son and builder of the house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and rejoicing of our hope to the end. Jesus is a faithful Apostle (messenger, ambassador) of God. He is the Word instructing us in God’s way to keep our hearts from going astray, Heb 3:10. Urging us to be diligent lest we fall through disobedience, 4:11 from the deceitfulness of sin, 3:13 . Giving us the word of God (the name by which He is known in heaven, Rev 19:13), that is living and active and sharper than any two edge sword piercing… to division of soul & spirit, joints & marrow and is a discerner of thoughts & intents of the heart. Heb 4:12
Jesus Our Great High Priest
Hebrews 4:13-16, And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus (the Apostle) gives us the words (information) we need to choose life and He (as High Priest) offers Himself to make atonement for our sins.
