Hebrews – "milk" and "solid food" Revisited
We have progressed in our study of Hebrews where we first learned there was such things as "milk" & "solid food" in the Bible.
In trying to determine what makes something "milk" or "solid food" we noted that the elementary teachings, identified by the Hebrews writer as "milk," namely: Repentance, Faith, Baptisms, Laying on of hands, Resurrection, and Eternal judgment are topics that are "foundational," necessary for becoming a Christian and to Christian "infants" who can build on that foundation to grow into mature Christians. Milk consists of facts, easy to digest, that outsiders and new Christians can eat.
We noted what was not in the "milk" of the gospel, namely: Grace, Righteousness, Justification, etc. The writer makes the point: (Heb 5:13 WEB) everyone who lives on milk is not experienced in the word of righteousness.
Since then we have learned that Jesus being the Son of God, which is "our confession," and our great High Priest, who has been tempted in all points like we are, yet without sin, enables us to "draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace for help in our time of need." Heb 4:15,16
In the first two chapters we learned that the "Son of God" is God. He is the Creator and He currently maintains all things with His powerful word. Because of the Son’s act of making purification for our sins, God exalted Him to be a King at his right hand, with a scepter of righteousness and a throne and a kingdom, etc.
This information led us to studying the "confession" (ie. Jesus is the Son of God and the "Rock") upon which Jesus will build his church, which too, evidently, is solid food.
