How Does a Christian Deal With Sin?
Kevin Recovering From Surgery
While Kevin is convalescing I plan on developing more fully the idea of how we, as Christians, should deal with sin. Recognizing that we are sinners and that we need to have a good, true Biblical understanding of how we should deal with sin.
This is not something that we inherently know, but must learn and that learning (which requires practicing) takes time (read - takes time over a span of years). Hebrews 5:12-14 tells us we need to move beyond the “milk” of God’s word to the “meat” since we are not acquainted with the teachings about righteousness. “But solid food [meat] is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
We’ll be looking at Romans mostly, but also Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, & Colossians that reveal much about the teachings about righteousness. How we are justified and become righteous have a lot to do with learning how to deal with sin, and learning to deal with sin to the point of being able to overcome sin. Any and eventually every sin including habits.
In Galatians 5:1 we are told that “it is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” We can be free from sin, it is a promise from God and it is a reason why He sent His son to us.
See you Sunday morning for class.
